Here you will find the latest news and information pertaining to Deacons and the Office of the Diaconate for the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
The Diaconate Office is a diocesan office the Archdiocese of San Antonio, committed to serving the diverse needs of the local diaconate community. Its purpose is to provide for the support and supervision of the Deacon's ministerial life in the local church, and the formation of permanent Deacons. The office offers guidance to deacons in their ministry, provides assistance for their continuing formation, education, and spiritual growth, supports individual deacons and their families, and encourages and promotes the diaconate community. In addition, it also provides an approval process for deacons moving into the diocese who apply for faculties and a parish assignment. When formation is complete, it is our office who qualifies candidates to the archbishop for ordination.

Interested in Becoming a Deacon
If you feel that you may be called to become a deacon, first we encourage you to reflect on it in prayer. Next, schedule some time to visit with your pastor about the diaconate and seek his counsel.
We would also suggest that you talk with deacons about their vocation and their responsibilities to get a clear understanding of what a deacon does and is.
Most importantly, discuss this with an open heart with your wife and family, if you are married. Then contact the Office of the Diaconate at 210-930-8118.
