Veteran’s Day ceremonies held at St. Mary’s University and UIW
St. Mary’s University ROTC held a Veteran’s Day ceremony November 10 at the Barrett Memorial Bell Tower and Memorial Plaza. Opening remarks were given by President Thomas Mengler and the invocation and benediction prayed by Deacon Albert J. Sanchez, director of University Ministry. Lt. Col. Tex W. Soto, chair and professor of Military Science, also spoke at the ceremony, and the keynote presenter was Lt. Col. Andrew A. Lyons, Jr., U.S. Army ret., coordinator for Veteran and Military Affairs at St. Mary’s. A wreath laying and Taps highlighted the gathering. The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) honored veterans at special events on Veteran’s Day, November 11, and on November 12. UIW is a Yellow Ribbon School, meaning it has been honored for its work with the nation’s veterans, and 27 percent of fall 2021 undergraduate and graduate students are military affiliated.
