Respect Life with Radical Solidarity

The 2023 Respect Life theme from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is Radical Solidarity, which invites Catholics to be deeply transformed by Christ’s example of love. We are called to embrace human life, come alongside the vulnerable, and move in compassion to contribute to a culture of life. Join the Archdiocese of San Antonio at an upcoming initiative in support of human life.

All are invited to gather for a celebration of the Mass with Auxiliary Bishop Michael Boulette at 4:30 p.m. in the Church followed by a panel discussion lead by speakers Mardi Baron, Kari Stewart, MPH, LCCA, and Father Donald Rank, OFM Cap., at 5:45 p.m. in the parish hall. This Mass and discussion will be held in English. RSVP to help us plan accommodations.

Speakers will highlight the three areas in which the Catholic Church in San Antonio emphasizes a respect for life by supporting and protecting the dignity of every human life.

About the Speakers:

• Kari Stewart, MPH, LCCA, is the Vice President of Programs at Seton Home run by Catholic Charities. Kari will speak about the support that Catholic Charities of San Antonio provides to mothers and parents, with emphasis on the shelter services at Seton Home and Guadalupe Home.
• Donald Rank, OFM Cap., is that pastor at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. Under Father Donald’s guidance and support, parishioners at Our Lady of the Angels have initiated formation of a mental health ministry to better accompany those with mental illness in the community. Father Donald will share insights about the importance of the Church to be a place of inclusion and healing for those who live with mental health challenges.
• Mardi Baron is a coordinator with the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. Mardi will share about her involvement in advocating for life while calling for action to abolish the death penalty in Texas.

Sobre los oradores:

• Kari Stewart, MPH, LCCA, es la vicepresidenta de los programas de Seton Home, dirigida por Caridades Católicas. Kari hablará sobre el apoyo que Caridades Católicas de San Antonio brinda a madres y padres, con énfasis en los servicios de refugio en Seton Home y Guadalupe Home.
• Padre Donald Rank, OFM Cap., es el párroco de la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles. Bajo la orientación y el apoyo del padre Donald, los feligreses de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles han iniciado la formación de un ministerio de salud mental para acompañar mejor a las personas con enfermedades mentales de su comunidad. El padre Donald compartirá ideas sobre la importancia de hacer que la Iglesia sea un lugar de inclusión y sanación para quienes viven con problemas de salud mental.
• Mardi Baron es coordinadora de la Coalición de Texas para la Abolición de la Pena de Muerte. Mardi compartirá sobre su participación en la defensa de la vida solicitando actuar para abolir la pena de muerte en Texas.
