Catholic Schools Week 2021 a time for thanks more than ever

By Marti West

This week marks the 47th anniversary of celebrating Catholic Schools Week. All across the Archdiocese of San Antonio, our Catholic schools will be taking time out of their normal schedules to show their appreciation and celebrate people who help to make Catholic schools strong — parents, teachers and staff, clergy and religious, students, and our benefactors.

This year, more than ever, each of these groups and individuals deserve our thanks and celebration. It is through their efforts that we have been able to continue to successfully nurture the hearts and minds of our children. Through their Faith and continued Service, Catholic Schools are weathering the storm of a global pandemic and showing, by example, the power of education under the mantle of God’s love for us and His children.

Catholic schools in San Antonio have always been a pillar of academic strength and excellence in our community, showing strong gains in high school graduation and post-secondary education acceptance and enrollment rates. Catholic school students consistently demonstrate above average test scores in Math and English Language Arts on the College Board PSAT and SAT. All our schools are accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops and adhere to elevated performance standards measuring overall school effectiveness, versus an isolated focus on test scores and grading systems.

Extracurricular activities are robust within our Catholic schools, offering students the opportunity to continue learning and building community within their schools. Our athletic and academic organizations have many state championships, and our fine arts offer the best in instruction and practice for our students.

A plethora of leaders from within our local community, and around the country, went to Catholic schools in San Antonio, and we strive to continue to graduate high-achieving future leaders from all backgrounds.

We serve families and students from nearly every zip code in San Antonio and tuition assistance is available in a variety of innovative ways, including scholarships and tuition discounts.

But what truly differentiates Catholic schools from other options is the Values-based education our children receive.

In a Catholic school, students will learn what it means to have a personal relationship with our Lord. They will learn what it means to pray for each other, as well as having others pray for them. They will learn about service and treating others with dignity and respect. And they will learn what it means to be a leader and our responsibility as Christians to have a moral compass guiding all decision-making.

As the primary educators of your children, parents can look to Catholic schools as a true partner in their growth and development. Together, we continue to be thankful for today and will be thriving tomorrow. Rediscover Catholic Schools at www.satxcatholic.org.
