Father Camillo Botello dies August 26 in New Braunfels

Father Camillo Botello Jr., MSF, pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New Braunfels, died August 26 in New Braunfels.

Viewing and rosary will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 138 West Austin Avenue from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, with the funeral Mass to be held at the church the following day, August 31, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.

Father Botello was initially appointed administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and its mission of St. John in Hunter in 2012, and was named pastor in 2012.

He had previously served as associate pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Seguin.

Camillo Botello was born on Nov. 16, 1960, to Camilo Botello Sr., and Sofia Yzaguirre Botello. He was the second of seven children — and the oldest boy — with siblings Pablo, Nieves, Mary Jane, Gilbert, Jose, and Sylvia.

He graduated from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, San Antonio College, the University of the Incarnate Word, and Oblate School of Theology. He was ordained on Oct. 17, 2003, at St. James Church in Beeville.

Father Botello was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed playing tennis and bingo in his free time.
