Joyous occasion in Helotes made possible by prayers and generosity

Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes held a site blessing and groundbreaking for their new Family Center Building on March 2 at The Annex property at 11762 FM 1560 North. The church is celebrating 125 years of building community through faith.

Opening remarks were given by Father Scott Janysek, pastor, and the Family Center Building history and highlights were given by Capital Campaign Team members. Remarks were also given by members of the Building Board, Metropolitan Contracting, and the Finance Council.

The blessing of the site was conducted by Archbishop Gustavo GarcĆa-Siller, MSpS; and along with Father Janyek and parochial vicars Father Ricardo Ramirez and Father Jesuraja ā€œRajaā€ Alangaram, MSFS.

ā€œThe word we are beginning today should enliven our faith and make us grateful. We know the familiar words of the psalm: ā€˜If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders labor,ā€™ā€ said the archbishop. ā€œWhenever we look to the interests of our neighbor or the community and serve them, we are, in a sense, Godā€™s own co-workers. Let us pray for his help through this celebration, my brothers and sisters, that God will bring this construction to successful completion and that his protection will keep those who work on it safe from injury.ā€

Special acknowledgements are the event were given to the Design Team of Architect Morkovsky + Associates of Mark Morkovsky and Charles Moy; Civil Engineer ADA Consulting Group with Donald Orolan; Structural Engineer of Lehmann Engineering with Darrell Lehman; Mechanical Engineer of James T. Rodriguez Consulting Engineers with Jim Rodriguez; General Contractor Metropolitan Contracting; Building Board members Alex Archey, Beverly Baldwin, Mike Castillo, Mark Loiselle, Bruce Rathburn, and Jason Wightman; Capital Campaign Team members Tomas Cisneros, John Fey, Mauricio & Michelle Freyre, Dora Hernandez, Skip Merten, Marilyn Pittman, Corrine Tong, and Minnie Vigil; and Finance Council members Orlando Uresti, Andy Mendoza, Kenny Rossler, Lisa Hassold, and Kory Upton.
