New leadership in place at St. Gerard Catholic High School

There is new leadership at St. Gerard Catholic High (SGH) School for the 2019-2020 academic year. SGH, founded in 1927 and originally operated by the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) and School Sisters of Notre Dame, was designated an archdiocesan high school in 1988.

The interim principal is Judith Priest. She holds a master’s degree from Corpus Christi State University, 36 hours in mid-management for School Administration, 12 hours in superintendent classes, and a certificate in Catholic School Leadership. She previously served as an elementary, middle school and high school principal — all in Catholic schools. She also has taught students in fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth grades in addition to high school juniors and seniors. Her teaching experience includes junior college courses at Del Mar College and Bee County College. She has four grown children and five grandchildren.

John Gutierrez is the new academic dean. A San Antonio native, he graduated from Central Catholic High School and also holds a double major degree in Spanish and History. Gutierrez has 38 years of experience in public education and five years of experience in a Catholic school. Gutierrez and his wife, Diana, an administrative assistant at Southwest Independent School District, have three grown children and seven grandsons.

Tim Holt has been appointed athletic director and head football coach. Holt has a master’s degree in Exercise Science from Fort Hays State University. He brings a wealth of 30 years coaching experience with more than 22 years’ experience as an athletic director in public schools in Alice, George West, Falfurrias, Mathis, and Gregory-Portland. He is married with four grown children and five grandsons. His wife, Gwen, is a retired school teacher and is currently a realtor.

The leadership team also includes Leo Maltos, enrollment director; Lindsay Durham, counselor; Denise Aguilar, bookkeeper and administrative assistant, and Aaron Chavez, part-time development director.
