Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes to host three events in support of ‘Big Give S.A.’

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes will participate in “Big Give S.A.” on Tuesday, May 5, to raise money for its Building Community Capital Campaign fundraiser to construct needed religious education and multi-purpose facilities.

On that day, to promote “Big Give S.A.” online donations to the parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe will be holding a “Big Give S. A.” open house and hosting 24 hours of prayer at “The Annex” property at 11762 FM Road 1560 North. That is the future site of the capital campaign buildings for which funds are being raised. On the property is a residence, pavilion and an Adoration Chapel. The open house will take place at the residence and pavilion and the 24 hours of prayer will take place in the Adoration Chapel.

The open house is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and food and refreshments will be sold. There will also be on-line giving booths and friendly fundraising competition.

In the Adoration Chapel, attendees will be praying for the success of the parish capital campaign, the May 5th national day of giving, and all participating local and national non-profits. They will also be praying for the many needs of the country and the world.

Catholic ministry in Helotes started in 1896 with a few people who began reaching out to others to build faith and community. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church has continued the 119- year tradition of Catholic community and has a rich history of living their faith and serving others.

This once small parish was built on a foundation that strongly focused on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. Even though the parish has grown from a handful of families to over 6,500 registered families, values have not changed over the years. There is still a strong sense of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The parish family strives to help others for the good of the greater community.

Social outreach programs serve the homeless; imprisoned; mentally and physically ill; elderly; teenage mothers; foster youth; hungry; victims of natural disasters; and those in need.

Because of the tremendous growth in the area, Our Lady of Guadalupe is fundraising to build for the present and future needs of its family and all those served through faith and outreach.

“Big Give S.A.” 24 hour on-line giving will run from midnight to 11:59 p.m. on May 5. Give via www.TheBigGiveSA.org.
