St. Margaret Mary Middle School Students Challenged Through Robotics

St. Margaret Mary Catholic School (1202 Fair Ave)Ā has implemented a teaching philosophy for middle school students that includes STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics). A current program that middle school students are enrolled in is a Robotics class which emphasizes the Critical Cā€™s of Collaboration, Cooperation and Communication through project-based learning. The school has contracted GeoComputers LLC which provides an instructor who utilizes the LEGO Mindstorm Education Program. Throughout the school year, students learn research skills, design ideas, the programming and construction of robots.

The Robotics class challenges students to think critically and adapt to various scenarios which fosters a gateway to success in real world situations. Students also learn presentation skills which include the use of verbal communication, audio-visual tools and teamwork.

GeoComputers LLC will continue providing instruction to middle school students in 2015 ā€“ 2016 and include Robotics II for 7th and 8th graders. This course will be more extensive and offer a more comprehensive in-depth study of Robotics. Students will learn more advanced programming and building skills to include more challenging constructs. A Robotics Club will be offered after school for students that are interested in competing and furthering their knowledge in the area of Robotics.
