St. Pius X School announces million-dollar gift

St. Pius X Catholic School announced a million-dollar gift in a unique way at the conclusion of the school Mass on August 25.

Father Pat O’Brien, pastor, sang a rendition of “If I Had a Million Dollars” at the end of the liturgy as a copy of an oversize check was carried by two students to the front of the altar. The gift is from Glenn and Kym Rapier Verette.

Interest from the gift will go to subsidizing teacher salaries. The school later plans to create a facilities fund, and finally, as the fund grows, it will be used to help subsidize tuitions for parishioners. The school has already been able to raise its minimum teacher salary by $4,000.

The donation from the Verette’s is being managed by the Catholic Community Foundation and has already produced $25,000. Glenn Verette is a graduate of St. Pius X School.

This summer, the school also received 10 three-year scholarships from Frank and Cathy Burzik.

St. Pius X, which serves students from Pre-K 3 through eighth grade, has seen an increase of 65 new students this fall.
