WORLD YOUTH DAY FROM PANAMA TO SAN ANTONIO

This year about 150,000 pilgrims attended World Youth Day-International from Jan 22-27 in Panama. For the first time ever, WYD took place in Central America at a time of year accommodating to their school calendar.

Hundreds of young adults from the Archdiocese of San Antonio, in solidarity with other Diocese across the nation, gathered in spirit on Sat., Jan. 26 during the Vigil Pope Francis held with the youth of the world.

A wonderful presentation was offered by Father Daniel Villarreal of Holy Trinity, where he spoke about Experiencing a Contiguous Faith. He reflected on how events like WYD can offer a fast experience that might not necessary lead to a long-lasting personal encounter with Christ. Events like this one are just the starting point for a spiritual journey on which we will find ourselves tested in our convictions. The spiritual struggle this implies will help deepen our personal relationship with God, which, in turn, will fill us with the joy we need to become missionary-disciples of a contagious faith.

The emcees, graciously provided by UTSA Campus Ministry, set the tone for the evening with their welcoming nature. Our musical guest RVBATO provided truly inspiring music for the evening. We recorded a video message for Pope Francis before the holy hour that closed the event. Next WYD will be in 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
