With immense joy and gratitude, we invite you to join us in the celebration of the sesquicentennial — 150th — anniversary of the canonical establishment of the Diocese of San Antonio, which took place on August 28, 1874. This significant milestone is a testament to the enduring faith, deeply rooted Catholic heritage, and untold blessings from God that have shaped this local Church through 150 years of missionary discipleship.

As we reflect on this journey, we must remember the countless individuals who, inspired by their unwavering commitment to Christ, have played pivotal roles in the growth and development of this Archdiocese. From the early days of courageous missionaries such as Father Antonio Margil de Jesús to those active in the vibrant, multicultural, and dynamic community we are today, each chapter of our history is marked by the grace of God and the contributions of many faithful souls.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, we have planned a series of special events and activities throughout the year. These celebrations provide opportunities for spiritual renewal, fellowship, and expressions of gratitude for the blessings we have received. Our synodal journey, marked by the core values of prayerfulness, stewardship, and unity, will be at the forefront of these commemorations.

In a special way, we encourage you to join us at our primary celebration, Archdiocesan Assembly 2024, “Walking United in Christ” which will be held Saturday, October 26, on the campus of St. Mary’s University. Your presence and involvement will enhance the spirit of unity and joy that will be the hallmark of this celebratory year as we journey towards the centennial of the elevation of this local Church as an Archdiocese in 2026. Let us come together as one family, giving thanks for the past, celebrating the present, and entrusting our future to the guidance of Our Lord.
