What is Assembly?

Assembly serves as the archdiocesan annual conference that celebrates the joy of being one family in our local Church. Each year, clergy, consecrated women and men, and lay people from across the Archdiocese of San Antonio gather as an extraordinary outward expression of our call to missionary discipleship expressed in our Pastoral Vision.

2024: The 150th Anniversary of the Diocese of San Antonio—Walking United in Christ

This year’s Assembly is the official celebration of the canonical establishment of the Diocese of San Antonio in 1874. Our theme, “Walking United in Christ,” seeks to focus our hearts and minds on our unity. As missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to be united in mind, heart, and spirit to deepen our relationship with our Lord, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate our shared history, achievements, and hopes for the future.

2025: The Jubilee Year—Pilgrims of Hope

Every 25 years, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates a 12-month period called a Jubilee Year. Each Jubilee Year is intended to mark a time to renew a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, with one another, and with all of creation, driven by a focus on prayer, forgiveness, and conversion. The 2025 theme “Pilgrims of Hope” signals the vision that we are all pilgrims on a shared journey to Jesus Christ, as missionary disciples here on earth and, ultimately, at his heavenly banquet in Eternal Life. Our perseverance on this pilgrimage is driven by the hope in Christ’s promises.

The Archdiocese of San Antonio will celebrate the Jubilee Year by inviting the faithful to visit designated Pilgrimage Sites located throughout the archdiocese. As a year of prayer and reconciliation, the archdiocese will take this time as a year of personal and communal conversion focusing on prayer and discernment in union with our Holy Father. In lieu of the annual Archdiocesan Assembly, Pilgrimage Sites will offer a day of Prayer and Reconciliation for all the faithful on October 25, 2025.

More information will be available on the website.

2026: The 100th Anniversary of the Elevation of the Diocese of San Antonio to an Archdiocese

In 2026, the Archdiocese of San Antonio will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the canonical elevation from a diocese to an archdiocese. We will join to celebrate this historic moment in the life of the local Church at the annual Archdiocesan Assembly. Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, plans to announce the official proclamation for the new Pastoral Vision that will guide the local Church into the future.
