Pope Francis has said: “God does not reside in the greatness of that which we accomplish, but in the littleness of the poor persons that we meet.” The actions of justice and charity are among the primary characteristics of what it means for us to be a Church. It is very good that we are here, moved by the Holy Spirit! And it is very good that we can share our resources with those who have so few! Let us pray.
Loving God and Father, give us hearts of love for your blessed ones, most especially the poor. May our work together bring joy, renewal in our commitments, and inspiration to continue serving in your name. We implore your blessing upon the work of Catholic Charities, the mission of the Church, and the people who are a part of our lives each day. Send your Holy Spirit upon us so that we may truly be servants of Jesus by being servants to the poor.
Provident Father, make us servants like your Son Jesus. Help us love with humble hearts that seek the hidden and forgotten who hunger and thirst for justice and mercy. May we be led by the Holy Spirit to bring the light of Christ into the world.
We ask your blessing on this meal that we are about to receive. Let this be a reminder of your abundant love that we all must share, as your faithful disciples. May we always be mindful of those who are hidden and forgotten.
Bless us O Lord and these your gifts which we are about to receive from your bounty, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Amen.
