Treasures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio has been published to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese of San Antonio.

Treasures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio is a soft-cover, 440 page, glossy 9.65 inch by 11.81 inch book that features histories and photographs of all Catholic churches in the archdiocese, as well as biographies, features on important ministries, and events highlights. The book is also available in Spanish. This beautiful coffee table book was commissioned by the archdiocese and is published by the French company Editions du Signe, which has produced dozens of similar publications for dioceses across the United States. The book will be available through most parishes and from the Communications Department in the archdiocesan Pastoral Center.

Treasures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio begins with a foreward by Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, and is followed by a history of the archdiocese. Each church is featured with professional photographs which were taken exclusively for the book. Additionally, side-bar stories highlight important historical figures, institutions, and organizations which had an impact on the archdiocesan community.

The last significant history of the archdiocese was printed in 1974 in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the local church of San Antonio as a diocese.

“As we celebrate the sesquicentennial of the establishment of the Diocese of San Antonio and a century since the elevation of the diocese to an archdiocese, may we continue to grow in faith and holiness, in fidelity to Christ and His Church,” said Archbishop Gustavo. “Looking to the future, let us build upon the strong foundations left by all who have preceded us.”

To purchase Treasures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, those interested are asked to call, e-mail, or visit their local parish office or contact the Communications Department in the archdiocesan Pastoral Center. The book will be available for $40 each at the Pastoral Center; parish prices may vary. Mailing of the books will entail an additional fee based on quantity.

The books are now available for purchase, as registration also opened on July 1 for “Assembly 2024: Walking United in Christ,” set for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at St. Mary’s University. All are invited to this historic moment in the life of the archdiocese.

The event will feature a historic Mass with the bishops of Texas and Cardinal Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States; honor the local church through dynamic presentations illuminating the past, present, and future of the archdiocese; include an exhibition of treasured artifacts from the archdiocesan archives; and offer delicious food and fellowship to conclude the event.
